School of Lay Ministry Workshop

March 7, 2026

10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Pastor Joe McGarry, the new Dean of the School of Lay Ministry will be presenting this workshop.

Leading Faithfully in an Age of AI

Here’s the uncomfortable truth: AI is already reshaping ministry, and church leaders are quietly splitting into two camps those who are learning how to use it with wisdom and intention, and those who will be forced to react once expectations, workloads, and comparisons catch up.

The question isn’t whether AI will affect the church; it already is. The real question is whether you’ll lead with discernment or scramble later with less clarity and more pressure.

Used well, AI doesn’t replace faith, theology, or relationships it supports them. It helps leaders think more clearly, communicate more effectively, and reduce burnout by handling repetitive tasks so humans can focus on what matters most: people, presence, and proclamation.

Every experiment sharpens your voice. Every use case helps you articulate your ministry more clearly.

This workshop is your chance to explore AI now, while the stakes are low and the learning curve is manageable, guided by faith, ethics, and Lutheran theology.

You can wait until change forces your hand or you can step forward now, equipped, confident, and grounded. We’re here to help you lead faithfully into what’s next.

Clarity, Not Complexity

Learn what AI actually is (and isn’t) and how to use it in ministry without needing technical skills or losing your theological voice.

Tools That Serve, Not Replace

Discover practical ways AI can reduce busywork, support communication and teaching, and free leaders to focus on relationships and pastoral presence.

Discernment for What’s Next

Engage ethical and faith-based questions so you can lead with confidence, wisdom, and integrity as technology continues to shape the church’s future.
